   Yes, Allah is changing infintely – creating, evolving, shaping, and expanding – these are just a few of the 99 beautiful names mentioned in the Qur’an : Al-Bari – The Evolver, Al-Khaliq – The Creator, Al-Basit – The Expander, Al-Musawwir – The Shaper. Of course, there are more than just 99 names of God. The others are hidden, left for us servants, to discover.

   Bice – first let me explain that I am again without my own computer and therefore have been unable to listen to the Bice Sagan Show since my work computer does not allow audio downloads.

   Regarding the poem, I think one of the reasons religion does not appeal to many educated people is that it attempts to make the infinite finite, the mysterious explained, the unknowable known. Many preachers preach faith then show little faith by attempting to make God a linear, measurable phenomenon.

   hakkani7 – you always expand my understanding of your faith and it is refreshing to know we often concur. I noticed at least four of the names have to do with forgiveness.

   krkbaker – yes, it is beyond the capacity of the mind to comprehend. It is like jumping into the unseen.

   I wanted to chime in on this before your collective response, but I’ve missed my mark again (mostly because I spent most of the past three days recovering from a wisdom tooth extraction).

   It may be that some religious leaders teach faith as a way of controlling their own followers – but then, in an attempt to exhibit understanding, they pretend to know the nature of God. Which seems counter to the nature of most spiritual traditions; whereas most religious ideals espouse conformation to a higher power, those who over-define that higher power are often making it conform to them.

   Or something like that. I’m sure I just found a much more cumbersome way of expressing what’s already been expressed 😉

   To my mind, the term “over-define” is a very apt one. It kinda operationally defines the charlatans.
