Booed at Poetry Reading

September 22, 2008

It looked friendly enough.

Even downright hospitable.

The crowd seemed attentive during my first 30 poems.

But they didn’t seem to like number 31.

Or number 32 for that matter.

Soon after, they stormed the stage and I fled.

On Extended Vacation

January 29, 2008

I have decided to stop posting for several months. I am sure that from time to time I will post something here or there. However I must stop for now. It is not that I have run out of ideas or interest. It is that I have to run elsewhere.

To my Blogroll: thank you from the depths of my soul. You have given me such strong support and encouragement. I have benefited more than you will ever know.

I am sorry I did not get around to read and comment as much as I should have. It is something I always felt guilty about (dead beat blogger) and one of the considerations in my decision. Reading other people’s stuff is just as much part of blogging as is posting. When I return I will do so only when I have the time to visit other blogs. That will be enjoyable.

I started this project almost two years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed your work and comradierie. It reaffirms my belief that we are all gifted in myriad ways.

When I Become Santa

December 14, 2007

We move operations south
to Newark, Watts, Bronx
East LA and ten thousand
other empty places.

We begin to make toys for souls.

Peaceful and playful
thoughtful and joyous toys.

Now
unafraid and knowing –
we will walk this earth
giving gifts.

About – myReligion

November 16, 2007

I was raised a Roman Catholic. I attended Catholic schools my entire educational life. I have been taught by Benedictine nuns, Marist brothers, and Jesuit priests.

I consider myself fortunate that I was required to study Theology and Philosophy. It is sad to realize that the vast majority of college graduates today are not required to do so. “Teach people to think for corporations and not for themselves”, seems an apt portrayal of modern educational programming.

In some of my poems I criticize organized religion in general and Catholicism in particular. I focus on Catholic because that is what I know best. I hope insiders of other faiths continue to criticize the incongruence and extremism in theirs.

Technological Neanderthal

I really don’t know what I am doing yet. I’m not sure why I started this blog apart from a strong compulsion to do so. Perhaps my spirit needs to formalize something to leave behind. Maybe this is the equivalent of a cave wall.

Semi-incommunicado

February 26, 2007

I am again without a computer for an indeterminate amount of time.  I will therefore not be visiting, commenting, or responding even at the paltry rate you are sadly accustomed to.

Please pray for my computer.

I have slowly,
not always smoothly,
not always with confidence,
inched myself out onto this limb.
It
is
far
safer
near
the
trunk.
