   This ia a re-post from last May.

   About four years ago I caught Rush claiming that the new white headlights on automobiles were no different from the common yellow tinged ones. He then asserted that those who were complaining about the white lights’ glare were practicing “class warfare” (since the white beams were emanating from high-end vehicles). Needless to say I yelled at my car radio and moved on…he is such a negative influence… It is sad our schools fail so miserably in producing independent critical analytic thinkers.

   It serves the privileged well
   to keep the masses under their spell.

   Hi qazse,

   I remember Lorne Greene of all people (of Bonanza fame, but earlier he was an important voice in Canadian radio) helped produce a game on cutting through the illogic of propaganda in all its form.

   As a kid we had that game and the Wff ‘N’ Proof logic game (both of which are still available it turns out).

   It is sad that our school systems have never thought tools for clear thinking should be a part of every child’s birthright. School is always more about socialization rather than thinking. Such games and activities I guess would raise too many uncomfortable questions about the nature of the child’s education itself, perhaps.

   Lorne Greene…I can believe it…he seemed to have a humanitarian and idealistic bent as I recall, and I seem to remember him cutting a recording of the Desiderata (or is that a false and cruel flashback?).

   Lorne Greene had such a great voice… I wouldn’t be surprised if he recorded the Desiderata back in the day.

   It seems like everything’s about double standards these days.

   Of course, one would argue that since we now practice democracy (or at least the democracy of the dollar), our brand of privilege is less worthy of contempt. Or maybe it’s just a disdain we have for all brands of injustice we can’t take credit for?
