This is a repost from April 2007.

  2. nakedculture Says:

    Who cares, your RIGHT!

  3. mindserased Says:

Sexual preference should be a non-issue except between people who are looking for, well, someone to have sex with.

  4. qazse Says:

nakedculture – thanks for the comment.

    mindserased – well stated.

  5. dummidumbwit Says:

Well, he’s not a she but I’m stopping there.

  6. qazse Says:

dummidumbwit – I am not sure what your point is on this one.

  7. dummidumbwit Says:

I love the Clan of the Cave Bear series of books, I was Googling Neandrethals for giggles and I found this in a Gay Man’s blog with some comments and the topic on your Blog reminded me of this picture and that’s as far as I’m prepared to go.

  8. qazse Says:

In your first comment you stated “but I’m stopping there”. In your second comment you stated in conclusion, “and that’s as far as I’m prepared to go.” Hey man, say what you have to say. You certainly have a right to your opinion. This forum is open to debate but not to innuendo or ridicule.

  9. dummidumbwit Says:

The innuendo is what? There is no ridicule intended. It is a museum diorama figure, created for purposes unknown. It’s not a real human in this case, I can find you 100 crackheads who will tell you exactly what’s on their mind, I prefer self censorship, but I guess I should have extended it to not sharing the photo in question?

This short poem sums up my thoughts on gayness, it is a non issue. I tire of pop culture’s fixation on it: gossip, jokes, stereotypes…as if it is a stigma. I think it is merely a happenstance. But the truth of the matter is, sex and controversy sell.

It is not that I have not participated in this stupidity, I have. Just as I have told ethnic jokes or made fun of people’s looks. But for me there came a time to move on. To do unto others…To see the folly in divisiveness…To shuck off my sub cultural conditioning…To realize we are all God’s creation…That sexual fixation holds us back from evolving spiritually as individuals and societies. It is not that I am anti-festive – far from it. It is just that I have moved away from humor based on prejudice.

I am not saying that your comment fits any of the above. Rather, I am explaining my intent regarding the poem.

You are certainly as welcome as anyone to comment. (“Crackheads” are welcome too – I am sure they have alot to say.) However, partial comments are not welcome. The beauty of blogs is the ability to dialogue on issues – to speak one’s mind.

    peace

I know exactly what you are saying, that picture is me, if I’m in a good mood I don’t care what anyone thinks, if I’m in a bad mood it weighs heavily. It’s the soulfull eyes, the lack of aggressiveness, far from ridiculing it, I would seek to look like that and I do (or did), less so now that in the 1980’s. Without being gay, I’ve taken more heat for looking a certain way than anyone else I know, so I really wanted more input on it but it’s the eyes and they are my eyes so I’ll just live with it. I’ve stood at the lease line of the store in a mall I was managing on a friday nite and had abuse hurled at me just because I leaned a little more to Flock of Seagulls than the Boss. So i was perhaps wondering if this stuck other people (it must have or you would have asked what the heck a cave man has to do with your article). I lived with my Bi girlfriend (I’m easier than most to get along with and talk to) and her lesbian lover off and on for years, so I know the politics, and I knew it was not going well when I was told what a wonderful gay guy I’d make, gosh darnit, can’t we wait for me to come to that conclusion on my own? I wish it would change and people would just let me be me.So after all that, that’s the point, and I’m sorry I tried to slide it by without being more pointed, but I wanted more input on why I myself run into this stuff quite a bit.I don’t think he looks gay or not gay, he look’s like me (as a caveman) if that makes any sense.

  12. qazse Says:

    thank you

First let me say that the Seagulls versus Springsteen was great. It gave me such a vivid picture. Parenthetically, while I have little familiarity with Flock of Seagulls, I do with the BOSS. I am a bit repulsed by him. I believe he was over hyped. His “sound” became ubiquitous and inescapable. Everyone was imitating him on cleanser commercials and shit like that. Bruce = macho sexy jersey hot. Sensitive yet rough. Handsome but not pretty. I never liked his dramatics, everything was desperate. Although he could rock with anyone. But not a steady dose of his persona for me. I like it mellower or more cerebral.

Second, there is no need to apologize. We are all in some kind of unfolding and it can be edgy at times. Conflict and consensus, yin and yang etc.

Qazse’s tag line is “wrestling with congruity”. It is not “conquer incongruity”. I know nothing other than my own heart and soul. I think I have found an earthly balance becoming who I am. It has been a struggle to allow myself to be who I am. I have been fed so much fear and shame like most of us. It comes from the systems which govern our families and shape things their way.

I believe sexual orientation is not a choice for some, and a choice for others. Whatever, it is no real problem. What is unfortunate is that many stay stuck in various ways instead of moving on and becoming themselves more fully. We are taught to mock and scorn by the status quo. They want us at odds and malleable. (it is an unconscious process on everyone’s part) (the rich are our brothers as much as the poor – the goons are our brothers as much as the weak)

I think we all need to stop worrying and fearing and loathing (nod to Hunter) and move on. Sex is a biological mechanism which is wired in various and wondrous ways. But I also believe – it is best transcended.

  13. qazse Says:

PS – regarding the notion that the picture is you – is it accurate to say it is a representation of you as your natural self, a boy full of wonder?

  14. qazse Says:

Or better put, a child full of wonder?

  15. dummidumbwit Says:

Yes, a Child full of wonder who represses the goon. I just prefer my more sensitive side, the other is there to be examined more by myself, as I’m not really comfortable with it. Also my comment on crackheads missed the mark, as a recovering addict alcoholic, it just represents my fustration in being unable to help more. They have much to offer, they are me. I want them (like me) to look at my Eleanor Roosevelt post, my double Rainbow post or even Mike Oldfield’s Ommadawn and get it or something like it that works for them.Stuck between fustration and never giving up I am.I not refering to any person online, but people I know in the flesh.I have to watch out for too much preaching and not enough sharing I suppose, I’m not always centered myself even if I try to advocate being centered, it is there but can be so elusive.

  16. qazse Says:

I too prefer your more sensitive side.

Why then did you choose such a hostile/mean persona (avatar)?

  17. dummidumbwit Says:

Good question, originally I used to respond to all post on my blog, since I have deleted them all and just leave all post (I yet to refuse any non spam) it was supposed to represent swift comebacks in a debate and is still appropriate to some more pointed attacks or comments on blogs I don’t like, I might change it because the original idea of swift responses to comments on my blog is gone, I don’t comment on comments, but I’m not sure if I will stay that way, it’s too hard to change, and it is appropriate to some comments I make, it’s supposed to represent savage wit, it’s the Joker, like a Don Rickles on steriods. Ah! A wise guy Huh? like that?

  18. dummidumbwit Says:

Oh, I should clarify, the Avatar’s intent was to go into right leaning blogs and stir up the pot, your blog is left leaning so I wasn’t there to attack, but I admit it might be hard to tell. I’m an Obama guy on the warpath, but I have right leaning friends so it’s just politics not personal.

  19. qazse Says:

That may be your rationalization, but what do you think is really going on?

  20. dummidumbwit Says:

Obama’s doing fine without me, so maybe the need to have a hostile avatar and go on the warpath are less than I thought. I’m basically down to trying to examine the Reagan Myth, that’s the bedrock of it really, an academic dispute on of the role of Government in society, especially in spending and social policy.

  21. qazse Says:

I think avatars can say a great deal, after all, they are pictures we choose. Mine has several layers of meaning; some of which I am not consciously aware.

Your avatar seems very angry and truculent to me. Yet, it is a bit vulnerable and transparent – not dissimilar to the professor cranking out the angry wizard from behind the curtain.

  22. dummidumbwit Says:

I love that analogy, probably right too.

  23. dummidumbwit Says:

On Manco, Their is a link (with an Avatar that seems identical to Manco’s) in Johnny’ comments it leads to Utube videos on Egyptian History of sorts. I feel I understand whom Manco is trying to reach. just check it out and you may understand (or see where) he is coming from. FYI

  24. qazse Says:

I think Manco is really the pope, and is yanking chains and having some fun.

Have fun my friend. You and Manco have taught me that I have gotten too serious lately.

  25. dummidumbwit Says:

In some other post, a Bishop was identified causing me to determined that Dr. Drew is the Pope actually.

  26. qazse Says:

Thank you for clarifying. Dr. Drew was on my short list. I became suspicious when he handed out the host and claimed it was methadone.
