obsessions leave wakes

I heard “oral sex”
ten thousand times more
than “terrorism”.

I saw her face
ten thousand times more
than bin Laden’s.

If only it had been otherwise…

  1. interesting perspective. i hadn’t arrived at that angle but a marvellous conclusion. love the title.

Paul – Thanks for stopping by. The President and the Republicans tied us up in a sex scandal which preoccupied our collective attention 24/7. Countless parents had to craft an explanation of “oral sex” to their younger children. It all became very tedious. And in the meantime true issues were ignored. It was all a dangerous game of “gotcha” which resulted in calamity. I think it was treasonous.

Sarah – I am glad you liked the title. It is one I have been ambivalent about in the past. However, I am comfortable with it now. I want to convey that all obsessions have a price at many levels. Our collective affair with Monica cost us dearly. Thanks for stopping by.

    Nice.

And though it’s not really the same kind of poem, it does remind me of a great one by Jane Kenyon that heads in the other direction, sort of – all because of that last word.

howard – thanks – I love that poem. I take it to be a reminder to live/appreciate our lives to the fullest because it will inexorably be “otherwise”.

    peace
