shadows emerge
we take flight
we take flight
we forever
take flight
from one moment
to the next
we take flight
until –
we are willing
to die
to stand
our ground
not waver
nor blink
stand our ground
and be swatted.

I love this. “To stand our ground and be swatted” is a beautiful idea to which I feel some relation.

howard – thanks. I initially was inspired by the flight of birds from our deck whenever I approached the window from within. I thought what it might look like if a bird would face down a cat instead of flying off. It wasn’t until I sat down to write that I realized the universality of the event/phenomenon.
narenda – thank you. You don’t have to apologize for the link back. It is standard.
first revision:
shadows emerge
in our wide eyes
we take flight
we take flight
we forever
take flight
from one day
to the next
we take flight
until
we are willing
to die –
to stand
our ground
and be swatted.

The revision fills out the idea but I prefer the original because the ending is so effective. There is the pause…and be swatted. It comes down like onomatapoiea. Very cool.
