Crickets cheer from
beyond porch screen,
cigar smoke circles
this old night.
I lay asleep at
grandpa’s feet,
Red Sox winning
three to one.

I know huh? My dad was a Chicago White Sox fan and he was from New York! During my teen years, I’d sometimes sit with him while he listened to ball games on the radio. In the interest of friendly rivalry (the birth of the betting quarter I still own), I became a Yankees fan. Old habits die hard.
